My desire has always been to share the day-to-day and year-to-year struggles I’ve had with self-sabotage. For years I didn’t understand why I seemed to yank the rug of success out from under myself. Then, it all became clear.

POWER to Succeed bookcover

Around 1992 I started journaling what I was feeling and doing when I began undermining success. I gradually started to see tell-tale signs and patterns of negativity emerge. The more I became aware of my own self-sabotaging tendencies and the more I talked with other women, I realized I wasn’t the only one yanking the rug of success out from under myself.

Why would anyone want to sabotage success and happiness? It’s not like we deliberately set out to sabotage ourselves. Self-sabotage is something we do unconsciously. I dislike saying it, but self-sabotage becomes a habit – something we accept as a part of how we’re living life.

In 1994 I sat down and wrote How to Give Yourself the POWER to Succeed based on my personal journey to overcome self-sabotage. In 1996 I published and started selling my book at workshops and speaking engagements. POWER was an instant success. So many woman came up to me to say, “I thought you were telling my story.”

How To Give Yourself The Power To Succeed: Recognizing the things you’re doing that may be keeping you from the things you want, is currently available on Amazon.com as a paperback and Kindle. POWER has been revised and expanded over the years, but there will always be a special place in my heart for my first book.

On my Sharon Michaels Author Facebook page I post a monthly writing challenge. I took up the challenge and here is a favorite vacation from many, many years ago.

Writing Challenge - July 2017

Growing up my family didn’t take “vacations.” We traveled to visit relatives, but I don’t recall any of those trips labeled a vacation. As I became an adult I wanted to go places outside my city. That’s when I discovered I had a hunger for travel.

A year out of high school I was fortunate to secure a job in the reservation’s office of a major airline. There my traveling adventures began. When you and your mother are offered a free trip to San Francisco, how can you say no?

To say I was a white knuckle flyer on my flight to San Francisco is an understatement. I think I held my breath the entire flight. As an employee, mom and I were able to fly first class. In the late 1960’s first class was definitely FIRST CLASS. Mom had a wonderful time eating, listening to music, talking with the flight attendants, sleeping – you get the point. Me, I was hanging onto my seat for dear life. I was thankful when we landed and my feet touched solid ground.

I remember we took a taxi cab tour of the city, ate in fancy restaurants, shopped in department stores we’d only read about in magazines and absorbed the atmosphere of San Francisco. I’ll never forget seeing the Pacific Ocean for the first time. I was awe struck. Even after so many years, the memories of discovering San Francisco are etched in my mind and heart forever.

By the way, the flight home was better. I was quickly getting used to being a “world traveler.”

That first flight and introduction to exploring new cities opened the floodgates of my desire to travel the United States and learn more about our country. I’m fortunate to say I’ve been to forty-four of our fine states by either plane, train or car. Many of these adventures I was able to share with my mother. I will always cherish those memories – they’ve all become favorite vacations.

Here’s to all your favorite vacations and special memories.

I was asked last week how I chose to write and publish my first fiction series about a dachshund who solves mysteries. Honestly, it just happened. I woke up one morning with an idea for a fun story about a group of neighborhood dogs who band together to solve crime. I didn’t know where the story concept would lead, but the more I thought about the storyline the more I liked the idea.

The Doxie the Detective series is based on our mini-dachshund Oscar. When we adopted Oscar his rescuers believed he’d probably been used as a stud in a puppy mill. It took a while for him to trust us and understand we were his forever home. He didn’t know how to play with toys. He didn’t know how to sleep in a comfortable dog bed. He gulped his food like he might not get another meal. During the eight wonderful years he blessed our lives, my husband and I cherished every moment we had with him.

As I write the Oscar the Doxie Detective series I clearly picture each of the endearing qualities that made Oscar unique and special. Writing this cozy mystery series is my way of honoring Oscar’s memory and helping you to get to know why we loved him so much.

Over those eight years we learned many life lessons from Oscar. I’ve been sharing some of those lessons in what I’m calling my “Doxie Wisdom.” You’ll find them posted on my Sharon Michaels Author Facebook page.

I also made a YouTube video a couple of years before Oscar crossed the rainbow bridge explaining how he became our mentor. Here’s a link to that video: Meet My Mentor – Oscar

Oscar Cozy Mystery SeriesShort fun light-hearted cozy mysteries you can probably read in an hour or so. Pour your favorite beverage, power up your e-reader, sit back and enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of Oscar the doxie detective. I’m guessing after reading this canine adventure, you’ll realize your own dog knows a lot more than you think.

The main mystery is solved in each book. You will enjoy the stories more if you read the books in order as some story lines thread from book to book.

Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars – Great Read!

“I loved the story line, murder mystery plot and humor throughout the book.
Looking forward to many more Oscar The Doxie mysteries.”
