A dead Santa under the mall’s Christmas tree has a way of taking the ho, ho, ho out of the holidays.

The dead man was dressed in a red Santa suit, furry cap and black shinny belt and boots. There was though one item of clothing obviously missing – his pants. The attention grabber, other than dead Santa’s lack of pants, was the chalk board sign resting in his lap. The sign read: “I’ve Been a Naughty Boy.”

Empowering Nonfiction for Women

I’ve been so busy writing sweet cozy fiction short reads these past few years, my empowering nonfiction has been collecting dust.

I self-published my first nonfiction, How to Give Yourself the POWER to Succeed: Recognizing the things you’re doing that may be keeping you from the things you want, way back in 1996. That was before Amazon made it easy to self-publish and market books.

I remember working with a local artist to get that first cover just right. I formatted the inside contents myself on Publisher. Then, I drove five hours to deliver the print ready layouts to a shop in Ohio who was willing to run off as few as 1,000 copies. Yes, 1,000 copies – that was a major leap of faith on my part.

How was I going to sell 1,000 copies? Remember, this is 1996 before the internet took off and we had no social media.

I pulled up my big girl pants and decided I had to overcome my shyness. I started speaking to women’s groups in my area and a year or so later, Clemson University contacted me to travel the country keynoting their Professional Develop for Women Program. I started selling my books and had to order more!

Yep, those were the good old days.(Sigh)

In the early 2000’s my husband and I moved my parents to the desert Southwest and decided not to travel as much. We became caregivers for several years. During that time I began writing for a women’s website called BellaOnline.com. I wrote weekly for over five years. I also began my own blog and posted weekly.

Posting consistently helped me develop a huge library of material. I began organizing all those articles into themes and categories. The categories became the ten plus books I self-published on Amazon.

About three years ago I began focusing on fiction – cozy mysteries and sweet romance. Even though writing fiction has become my main focus, I am passionate about women empowering and supporting women! That was my mission in 1996 and it is still my mission in 2020. With that in mind, I am going to be reminding women that I have some powerful self and professional development books available.

This is the time to go for our goals!
This is the time to believe we can and will make a positive difference!
This is the time to step out and take that leap of faith!

New Release – Cows, Corn & Crime

I’m excited to share my newest release – Cows, Corn & Crime. A fun short read cozy mystery starring Sara, Sam, Oscar and Lucky. The Mitchells find themselves knee-deep in another mystery. Thank goodness they have the famous crime solving doxies Oscar and Lucky to sniff out the criminals.
